Make it your home..

Whether the property is a totally unfurnished blank canvas, or is part-furnished and gives you something to work with, one thing’s for sure when it comes to renting: although not technically your house, you can quite easily make it feel like your home. And doing so doesn’t have to cause any damage or result in leaving items you’ve bought behind when you move on, either.

Check out our creative cosmetic tips for how to put your own stamp on a rental properly, while still being able to leave without a trace after your tenancy is up.

1. Take a seat

The easiest way to put your own mark on a property, without actually adding any marks, is with furniture. While big pieces like a sofa, sideboard or dining table will instantly make a space feel like yours, smaller items such as a drinks trolley or a pouffe will bring your own personality in too.

2. Soft furnishings

Photo frames on mantelpieces, candles and books on coffee tables, throws and cushions artfully draped over seating instantly humanises a space, as well as adds colour, texture, fragrance and a little piece of you. While rugs in lounges or hallways and your favourite bed sheets will very quickly make it feel cosy.

3. Lightbulb moment

Lamps can soften a space and create a cosy atmosphere. Whether you add them on bookshelves, sideboards or bedside tables, they can easily be a statement piece as well as functional.

4. Plants

From tall bamboo plants to a large leafy monstera, adding green foliage to a room gives it life and will help it feel like somewhere you want to spend time. Then style them with an ornamental pot that ties in with the decor, too.

5. Picture perfect

Command strips allow you to put artwork up on walls, without drilling holes or hammering any nails. Whether you’ve got a collection of classic film posters or love modern art, adorning the interiors with your chosen pieces will instantly add your own personality
