Warmer weather is on its way.. we hope!
1. If you haven’t already done so, get those tools cleaned, sharpened and oiled before the season starts! You’ll be so glad you took the time to do it.
2. Creating a nice garden doesn’t have to be expensive. This is the time of year when people start clearing out sheds and greenhouses, ready for a fresh start in Spring. Keep an eye out on selling sites for cheap or free plants, pots and trellises. There are some incredible bargains to be had!
3. Almost anything can be grown in a container, provided it’s the right size. You can even plant lettuce, basil or small flowers like marigolds underneath to make use of every available space.
4. Container growing is great if you’re renting or you just don’t want to invest time and money into a garden that isn’t yours. This is where pots are so useful as you can take them with you, without having to dig up plants and disturb roots!
5. Make use of empty space – Hanging baskets and window boxes are great if you have little room on the ground spare.
6. If you want to grow in the ground, especially in small spaces, annuals are perfect as you can enjoy them the first season and then save the seeds for planting again next year. Sweet peas are perfect and there’s still time to sow them! You won’t need to dig them up whenever you move, and they can be grown up arches, trellises and obelisks to make a big impact in a little space!
7. You could look at installing a water butt to make the most of seasonal rainfall. Now is the time to be collecting it before the hotter months arrive!
